February 3 Weekly Roundup: NYCs Best Craft Coffee; The Truth About Thailands Tiger Temple; David Bowies Berlin

I come across many interesting travel stories during the week, only some of which I have time to blog about. So you don’t miss anything, here’s a roundup of the most interesting travel stories you may have missed.

Stories You May Have Missed: Week of February 3 Edition

• If you’re in search for some great coffee destinations while in New York, check out Fodor’s list of five coffee shops specializing in craft coffee, which includes Williamsburg’s Toby’s Estate (by way of Australia) and Hi-Collar (by way of pre-war Japan). • Have you noticed all the pictures people post online of themselves posing with docile tigers (okay, this may be something that pops up more in the travel community)? Chances are, they were taken at the Tiger Temple in Thailand. But how ethical is the sanctuary? Turner Barr volunteered there to find out himself, and he left after 18 days (if that gives you any idea). Watch his video to see what it was like. [Tiger Temple or Tiger Business? • In the mid-70′s, David Bowie relocated to Berlin for inspiration, which resulted in his Ziggie Stardust phase. Visit the FT’s article to explore David Bowie’s Berlin, because seriously, who else’s Berlin would you want to explore? [The Berlin landmarks that inspired Bowie]

• Skift, the travel industry-focused site, decided to take a look at the travel tech world and find out which companies are the most heavily backed by investment capital. Here are their findings (Airbnb and Uber top the list unsurprisingly). [The Top 31 Most Heavily Venture-Funded Startups In Travel]

• The Chicago Sun-Times went in search of the best ice cream in Sicily, and the winner was Voglia Matta — purportedly “nearly unknown to tourists.” Go there quick before this changes. [In search of Sicily’s best ice cream]
